*************FinderFont Narrow for System 7*************
1) This font is freeware, public domain, so enjoy!
2) This font has been designed for use with System 7 only, to take advantage of the System 7 capability to select a unique font for use in the desktop displays created by the Finder.
3) This font may be given away freely by any commercial or non-commercial organization so long as this ╥Read Me╙ file and the ╥FinderFont Narrow 1.0.0╙ suitcase file are kept together.
***************What is FinderFont Narrow?***************
Based upon Geneva 9 and FinderFont 9, FinderFont Narrow 9 is an ultra narrow version of these fonts to help make the Finder labels as narrow as possible and still be easy to read. Typically each label will be 20 to 35% narrower than Geneva 9. This font was specially designed to look clear and be easy to read in the Finder.
The FinderFont Narrow-Italics 9 has been provided so that the Finder will use it to title alias files. This italics font has been tuned for sharper presentation and better centering.
Step 1) Hold down the option key and drag the ╥FinderFont Narrow 1.0.0╙ suitcase file directly into the System Folder and answer affirmative to all question(s). (The option key down forces a copy of the ╥suitcase╙ file without erasing the original--a normal occurance if the file is on the same volume as the System Folder.)
Step 2) Open the Control Panel ╥Views╙ and select FinderFont Narrow from the pop-up menu and choose 9 point for the size.
Step 3) Close and you are done. The Finder will now display the very narrow font allowing you to pack your files closer together or to use longer names easily.
Don't worry about selecting the italics font. The Finder selects it automatically for alias use if you have selected FinderFont Narrow 9 as the display font.
FinderFont Narrow is as narrow a font as is practical for visual presentation in the Finder. (The original FinderFont 9 is between Geneva 9 and FinderFont Narrow 9 in width.)
FinderFont Narrow Version 1.0.0 is the original release and has an NFNT FOND ID number of 2778.
This release version has ultra-compressed 0-9, A-Z, a-z and several other characters that normally appear in titles. The rest of the characters are the same as the original FinderFont. The author is open to any requests to narrow other characters in the series.
